PERSONAL POSSESSIONS AND PETS

ADMISSION

PERSONAL POSSESSIONS AND PETS
Residents are encouraged to personalise their surroundings within the given space in their room. Examples of items you may wish to bring with you are photographs; a favourite chair; pictures; a favourite doona cover or quilt; a TV or radio; and ornaments etc.

It is important to consult with the Care Managers prior to purchasing or bringing in items of furniture for there are a number of safety and space aspects to be considered.

Any costs associated with phone or Pay TV connection are payable by the resident or representative.

PETS
pets have recognised therapeutic value and also help create a homelike environment. Relatives are encouraged to bring in pets belonging to residents to visit at any time. Dogs need to be on leads and cats restrained in cage when outside the resident’s room. Following consultation with management, certain pets e.g. birds and fish may be able to make their home at Yass Valley Aged Care.

(Unfortunately puppies under the age of 12 mths are not able to visit due to the high rate of Campylobacter carriage; shedding in puppies; and the susceptibility of the residents to infections).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Yass Valley Aged Care Ltd has a policy that electric wheelchairs and scooters can only be used in the resident’s room. If use outside the room is required staff must assist with use of the scooter / wheelchair. This is due to the risk to frail walking residents.
